National Conference for Students Living with Disabilities PDF Print E-mail

The National Conference for Students Living With Disabilities take place from 10am-5pm on Wednesday 10th April 2019 at the Irish Human Rights & Equality Commision, 16-22 Green St. Rotunda, Dublin 7.

The event is organised by the Union of Students in Ireland and AHEAD.

This conference is aimed at students living with disabilities and will provide a space for students to inform the work of their national union, offer feedback on challenges and opportunities and network among other students.

This event is for any student who identifies as having a disability and student representatives that who work with students living with disabilities.

COSTS: USI are covering venue hire, speaker costs, and lunch for the event.

CONTENT: Through a variety of workshops and speakers, the conference will highlight how to remove barriers and increase opportunities in the student and life experience of people living with disabilities.

- PART 1:
The first half of the day will include round table discussions asking key questions surrounding the
experience of students with disabilities in education.
Participants will be able to discuss their experiences in a group dynamic, and feed back to the Students’ Unions, USI and AHEAD, on what their observations are.

- PART 2:
The second half of the day will focus on sharing experiences through panel discussions with people living with disabilities who have experience in leadership and activism. The panelists will speak to the participants and address questions in the area of disclosing their disabilities and requirements in their classroom, their workplace and their social situations. Panelists will discuss how they have become activists and advocates for people within their communities who are living with disabilities and how activism has many different forms.
